Protein Breakfast And Diets

Poached Egg, two slices of honey roast ham, sliced tomatoes

Yummy, who says you can't enjoy breakfast if your losing weight!  This is a protein based breakfast which will ensure you don't crave for carbs during the morning.  Just because you are on a weight loss program does not mean you have to eat rabbit food, it's about eating healthy.  This dish is low in fat, high in protein and will help balance out your blood sugars throughout the morning. If you are peckish before lunch have a piece of fruit or a small pot of yoghurt.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  You don't need me to tell you that.  If you don't set your day up properly you will end up eating crap and defeating the purpose of losing weight or improving your health if those are your aims.  Let's look at this logically.  Your body is in a state of repair when we sleep. Therefore a lot is happening and a lot of energy is being used when we 'rest'.  Fuel is needed to ensure the body repairs itself during the state of rest. Your digestive system has to shut down during this period to enable the body to carry out other repair functions, therefore if you eat later than 8pm it is unlikely your body will process the food ingested and therefore it either sits in the gut until your digestive system is switched back on in the morning, or it is stored as 'fat' in the body.  Another reason not to eat late at night!

Most cereals are of no value to our bodies nutritionally, with the exception of wheat based cereals such as weetabix, shredded wheat and bran flakes along with porridge or oats based cereals or muesli which are low glycemic (Low GI) and will slowly release the energy evenly throughout the morning so you don't feel hungry.  You can top these cereals up with fresh fruit as added sugar in a natural way will increase your energy levels.

Really important to note that your breakfast must not be below 200 calories, otherwise you will tend to get hungry in no time and crave the wrong foods.

Diet & Nutrition - Radiotherapy And The Effects On Your Teeth & Diet

I have recently come across a a very dear friend who is going through Radiotherapy treatment for cancer of the thyroid and the seeing the effects it is having on her diet prompted me to research this more.

The information in this post is gleaned from a number of areas on the internet, both medical institutes and other specialists in nutrition for cancer patients.

What I have found is that Radiotherapy used for cancer treatment of the head and neck can have harmful effects in your mouth. This includes dryness and soreness that greatly increases the risk of tooth decay, gum disease and infections.

Your oral and dental health needs to be as good as possible to reduce treatment side effects and keep your mouth feeling comfortable. Achieving good oral health is hard work but a good dental team will help you with this. Stopping smoking will also be extremely helpful for your mouth, the cancer and also for your future dental treatment.
You can prevent adverse dental problems by brushing your teeth regularly and use a fluoride mouthwash after drinks, snacks and meals.

Your general health is also very important and a well balanced diet containing enough energy, protein, vitamins and minerals is essential to help you recover from treatment as quickly as possible.  You may find it difficult to eating solids due to the dryness and soreness of the mouth area, that being the case a liquid diet maybe more appropriate.  Smoothies made of vegetables, fruits packed with protein and minerals will help to keep your weight up and helps to build the immune system.

It is very important that during and after the cancer treatment your diet is properly monitored by a nutritionist.

Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Let’s be clear about this, it isnot a miracle cure, but this age old recipe has been around for centuries.  Hippocrates, known as the Father of Medicineused this vinegar around 400 B.C. for its health giving qualities.

So What Is Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar is made from ripe apples that are fermented and then goesthrough a process to get to the final product.  The vinegar contains a host of vitamins, beta-carotene, pectin and vitalminerals such as potassium, phosphorous, sodium, magnesium, calcium, sulphur, chlorine, fluorine, and iron.

Now most of you will think that thesupermarket ‘clear sparkling’ white cider vinegar is the real deal.  The pure vinegar is steamed to get thesparking clear vinegar that is available at the supermarket. This steamingprocess destroys almost all of the health giving nutrients. What it does do isgive the vinegar an excellent eye appeal. Well, sorry to say that its not. Ifyou were to find the ‘real’ beneficial cider vinegar, it is brown in colour, unfiltered or refined, and has a tiny cobweb type substance floating in it,known as ‘Mother’.  This unrefined applecider vinegar is of good quality with all the nutrients and health givingproperties inside.

How Can It Help Ailments, Weight Loss and More:
Pectin can be found in the skin ofapples and in the vinegar is a fibre which helps reduce bad cholesterol andhelps in regulating blood pressure.

The potassium in this vinegar alsohelps in eliminating toxic waste from the body. Great for detoxing!

The beta-carotene helps inrepairing damage to the skin caused by pollution and free radicals, helping tomaintain firmer skin and a youthful appearance.

If you suffer from and  including weak finger nails, hair loss, toothdecay, sinusitis, and what seems like a cold or  permanently running nose, this present adeficiency in potassium. Apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium.

Apple cider vinegar is good forthose wanting to lose weight. It helps in breaking down fat which helps innatural weight reduction.

Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid which is very helpful in fightingfungal and bacterial infections. Uric acid deposits formed around joints can bepainful.  Malic acid dissolves uric aciddeposits that form around joints, helping relieve joint pains. This dissolveduric acid is gradually eliminated from the body.

It has been found that apple cider vinegar is helpful in ailments such as indigestion, constipation, weak bones, headaches, arthritis, diarrhoea, eczema, high bloodpressure, sore eyes, joint ailments, mild food poisoning, sinusitis,  high cholesterol, hair loss, obesity, chronicfatigue, along with a host of many other ailments.

Day Two Party Challenge Detox

Ok, so how did your day one go?  Leave me comments below because I would love to know that I am not on my own doing this :)

Well day two of the challenge -  It's going to be either easy to do, or easy not to do, that is up to you.

The following foods are 'no go' for the next three days at least:
Dairy, Cheese, red meats, sauces, alcohol, cakes, biscuits, white bread.

A good way to help your detox is to have some 'detox' tea.  You can get this from any health food shop. This helps to clear the colon and prepares the body for easy weight loss.

Herbalife's Florafibre product is also a great colon cleanser, and should be used alongside the detox tea for maximum effect.

Remember: Drink lots of water, put more exercise into this 5 day detox period to see good results.

To your weight loss success!

Xmas Party Season is around the Corner.... Get into that Party Dress Lose Weight NOW

Well, It is now October. Christmas is really only around 11 weeks away.  So we have time to lose around 7 - 10lbs if we want to get into that party outfit.

I usually go on a weightloss program this time of year to lose approximately 7 -10lb.

A Sense of Achievement

Taking part in the London Triathalon in 2007 was one of the pinnacles of my life. It was a fantastic achievement to have completed this marvellous event.

Here I am with my three team members, Jenny adn Emma. We were part of a team called the Herbalupers. Jenny came on board with less that 8 weeks to go, she had previously just recovered from Pleurasy apologies if I have spelt that incorrectly, and she agreed to be our swimmer! what a brave girl. She completed the 1500m swim with ease....
Emma volunteered to be the 5k runner, and what a fantastic run that was.
Me, well I ended up doing the 20k bike ride..... nearly killed me! But was such a good laugh and it was lovely that everyone cheered each other on.

For me, this was a life time achievement. I had reached my forties, and hadn't competed in any competitions for the last 6 years. I used to play in a Netball league but got injured. My ligament in my knee gave out, so jogging and jumping were a no no for me. Prior to my knee injury I loved sports, and was always playing either badminton, Netball, Football or going to the gym. The thought of having to get back into training to compete in this Triathalon was a no brainer really, I wanted to improve my fitness but also to prove that I CAN DO THIS if i put my mind to it!

It took a lot of discipline, effort and focus to prepare ourselves for this event. Even your diet had to be focussed and you had to be disciplined enough to ensure you ate the right mix of food groups.

Preparing yourself physically and mentally was a challenge. But like all challenges we face, you deal with them one at a time. I had tolog a daily schedule of what I was going to physically achieve for that day and STICK to it! When I was out there preparing for my cycle race, I would listen to my ipod which i had loaded up a bunch of motivational audio books, as well as some really great inspirational music to keep me going the distance. This made the time go quickly and enjoyably...

I raised nearly £2,000 for charity by taking part in this event alone, so it made it all worthwhile for me, and do you know, I went on to compete again in the following year's Triathalon, in fact we all did, but in different teams..... It was fantastic!

This is one less achievement I can tick off on my list of things I have done before I leave this wonderful earth....

What have you done, that made you feel a great sense of achievement in your life? Go ahead and leave a comment for me....

How I Found Herbalife

December 2003, after the Christmas festivities had finished, the reality of what lay ahead for me started to sink in. Alone, with two boys then aged 11 and 5 and no form of income coming in. Living in a three bedroom house with a substantial mortgage to pay and a pitance of alimony money from the boys father to pay towards their wellbeing.

I began to look online, to see if there was anything I could do to help me work from home to be with my kids. I must have seen a hundred or so 'online opportunities' to make quick money, lots of money from home. Most of these I quickly saw through as scams, but there were some where I thought mmmmmm, I wonder!

Well I gave up on searching online as there were too many sites to view. However I received a leaflet through my door about wanting to work from home. It had a website address so I logged on to find out more. When I initially came across this one ad online, it struck a chord with me, and I had a deep down feeling about this one particular ad. I read through the site, thoroughly. I then entered my details, not expecting anything to come from it, so blow me, I was shocked when I received a phone call that very day. We talked over the phone and got on really well. Even more suprisingly he lived not too far from where I lived, which was reassuring at the time. The rest is history....
