Exercises You Should Not Do To Lose Weight
Mistake #1: Doing isolated exercises
Doing isolated exercises like bicep curls and tricep kick-backs will not get you any significant results. These one-muscle-at-a-time moves simply don't stimulate enough muscle fibers to build lean muscle or expend enough energy to maximize your calorie burn.
If you want to build lean muscle while burning fat so you can get serious definition, you need to perform exercises that stimulate as many muscles and expend as much energy as possible at the same time. Using these types of exercises (which I'll reveal on the next page) will dramatically accelerate your results.
Mistake #2: Working out with machines
Fancy machines may make the gym look high-end, but truthfully, about the only thing they're good for is for sitting down while you tie your shoes or catch your breath! The problem is this: Machines alter the way your body naturally moves and restrict your range of motion. This severely limits your ability to fully activate all of your muscles fibers -- that means less fat burning and less muscle definition. Worse yet, machines can cause excessive strain on your joints, leading to nagging injuries down the road.
If you want fast results, it's critical that you incorporate exercises that allow your body to move naturally with full range of motion so you can skyrocket your metabolism and tone your entire physique.
Mistake #3: Doing long bouts of cardio
Look, you need to do cardio if you want to lose weight and burn fat...BUT there's a right way and a wrong way to do your cardio workouts. If you've been pounding the pavement or the treadmill with nothing to show for it (except sore joints and a pair of stinky worn out sneakers), you already know it takes a lot of effort to get minimal results.
In this article, I'm going to reveal the most effective way to pump up your cardio routine that will get you insane results in half the time of your regular cardio workout -- without causing unnecessary stress on your joints. Seriously, don't skip this article because once you learn this simple trick, you'll kick yourself for not doing it all along.
Mistake #4: Doing crunches and sit-ups to get 6-pack abs
If you want washboard abs, doing traditional ab exercises like crunches and sit-ups WILL NOT get you a six pack. In fact, doing any exercises that target your abs won't get you a six pack either! These so-called "ab" exercises are a complete waste of time. They don't make your abs get any more defined and they definitely don't burn any fat.
The key to getting sculpted abs is to burn off that stubborn layer of belly fat that's hiding them!
Mistake #5: Repeating the same workout routines over and over
Repeating the same workouts over and over is a surefire way to STOP getting results. We're creatures of habit and we tend to stick to things we're familiar with and good at. But when it comes to your workouts, if you want to keep making progress and keep seeing changes in your body, you've got to start switching things up.
You see, your body has an amazingly ability to adapt quickly and when it does, that's when you hit the dreaded plateau and you stop making progress.
Mistake #6: Doing long workouts
Longer workouts do NOT equal better or faster results. If you've been slaving away at the gym and your body isn't visibly changing, you can't do more of the same thing and expect a different result.
When it comes to getting lean and fit, your body responds to quality over quantity. I'm going to tell you the #1 way to super-charge your workouts -- this simple, yet overlooked method is the single fastest way to getting lean and ripped while cutting your workout time almost in half. No joke - this technique will open up a can of whoop-ass on your workout!

***GUEST POST*** The Do's And Don'ts Of A Successful Fitness Plan
1. DO Cardiovascular Exercise
Before setting foot inside a gym, you should have a fitness plan in mind. There are a variety of fitness plans that will help you achieve the results you want.
For optimal results, choose a plan that includes at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise such as swimming, running or biking three days each week.
Cardiovascular exercise not only helps your body burn excess calories, but is an important part of heart heath. You can also try walking on the treadmill, the stair stepper or the elliptical machine.
2. DO Lift Weights
In addition to cardiovascular exercise, you will achieve results much more quickly if you lift weights.
2. DO Lift Weights
In addition to cardiovascular exercise, you will achieve results much more quickly if you lift weights.
When you add strength training to your fitness plan, your body will gain lean muscle tissue and burn more calories at rest than with cardiovascular exercise alone.
Most people achieve great results when performing three sets of 10 to 12 repetitions with a weight they can handle. The last three repetitions should be tough to complete. When it becomes easier, move the weight up, to avoid reaching a plateau.
3. DON’T Overdo It
Many people make the mistake of going all out for the first few weeks of their new fitness plan. This often results in extreme muscle soreness or injury.
3. DON’T Overdo It
Many people make the mistake of going all out for the first few weeks of their new fitness plan. This often results in extreme muscle soreness or injury.
Being consistent is the key to getting in the best shape possible, so you don't want to overdo it. Learn to listen to your body when you begin your exercise plan.
There is a difference between muscle soreness and injury-related pain. Muscle soreness is relieved with anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and rest. If you experience a sudden onset of pain or intense pain that does not go away with rest, see your doctor.
4. DON’T Avoid Strength Training
You may be concerned that lifting weights will make you big and bulky, especially if you are a woman. However, one of the biggest mistakes people make when beginning a new exercise plan is avoiding the weight room.
4. DON’T Avoid Strength Training
You may be concerned that lifting weights will make you big and bulky, especially if you are a woman. However, one of the biggest mistakes people make when beginning a new exercise plan is avoiding the weight room.
Lifting weights will help you achieve the tight, healthy body you desire. Women will not become big and bulky from weight lifting (unless they take some dangerous supplements, which you should never do) because their bodies do not make enough testosterone to do so.
Female body-builders who are overly muscular must alter their testosterone levels with steroids to get large muscles and spend literally hours every day in the weight room, which you likely wouldn’t dream of doing. 30 minutes should suffice.
Once you begin to see results from your fitness plan, you will never go back to a sedentary lifestyle. Be consistent with exercise and you will see results. Do not expect to shed 100 pounds in just a few months or become muscle-bound in three weeks. You must be patient and continue your fitness plan to see results. Eating a healthy diet is another important part of the fitness equation. Aim to eat a variety of complex carbohydrates, non-starchy vegetables, healthy fats, lean protein and low-fat dairy products each day. Many people who exercise regularly eat three to five small meals a day, instead of three large ones. This will keep your metabolism running strong and help you avoid hunger, that may cause you to overeat or slow down your metabolism.

Great Family Work Out You CanDO with Your Kids...
Luann Abrams
March 12, 2010 by Joe Gigantino
We’ve all had those days when there is simply too much going on to get in that workout you know you need. You have barely seen your family except to pass them as you are rushing out the door, and you feel too guilty to run off to the gym. Here is the perfect solution: a great full body workout plus playtime with your kids. Try it the next time life gets too hectic!
Here’s Luann’s choice for one of her best family workouts. Luann Abrams is an ACE certified personal trainer who focuses on family fitness. She trains clients and teaches family fitness classes in her community. You can always find fun family fitness ideas at her blog, Training For Fun or follow her on Twitter at @Trainforfun.
Family Workout Routine:
Find a place to run in your house–a hallway works great. If the weather is nice take it outside in your yard or on the sidewalk. Run back and forth chasing each other (for the little kids) or timing each other (for the older kids) while incorporating the following sports conditioning moves:
High Knees – Stand straight and lift your knees up to hip-level as you run.
Butt Kicks – Hit your butt with your heels as you run. Land softly on the balls of your feet.
Jump Skip – Jump and drive your bent knee straight up as you skip forward, exaggerating your natural arm movements.
Walking Lunges – Step forward with your first leg landing heel first. Lower body by bending both knees until back knee nearly touches the floor. Lift yourself up using both legs and step forward and repeat with the opposite leg.
Ski jumps – Jump along an imaginary line down the middle of your course. Starting on one side with knees slightly bent and feet angled at about 45 degrees toward the line, jump over the line turning so knees and toes are at a 45 degree angle toward the line on the other side. Jump to one end and then repeat jumping backwards to the other end of your course.
Jumps – Just jump! Remember to land softly, which means you have to use your muscles to slow the momentum of your lowering body and not lockout your knees. Add an obstacle, or several, that you have to jump over.
Stairs – If you have stairs, you have a built-in workout machine. Running up and down the stairs two-at-a-time, sideways, and backwards is a phenomenal workout. Carry a weight (or your kid!) to really amp up your calorie burn. You may want to skip this with younger kids until they are sure-footed.
Drop and Give Me – At either end of your course, have a mat or towel where you perform a different exercise such as push-ups, crunches, or tricep dips, each time through.
Feel free to leave comments or ask me questions. Have a great workout and next time you need to squeeze in a workout into your busy week, don’t forget to include your best workout buddy’s – your family!
