Has The Christmas Turkey Got You Gaining A Few Pounds?

It's that time of year, when it is so easy to indulge in all the lovely food prepared by your mothers, aunts, sisters, friends and the like. Why is it that once a year we tend to really PIG OUT and eat about a zillion calories all in two to three days over the Christmas Period.

Then, when our skirts or jeans feel a little tight we moan about it, then make that fatale New Years Resolution to lose some weight! How many people out there will stick to a new exercise and eat healthy regime for longer than two weeks? The answer sadly is not many.

So how can you begin to lose those calories and inches succesfully without having to feel guilty about it?

First things first, YOU have to be mentally prepared to go the distance and aim to lose the weight goal you have put in place for yourself.

Secondly, who will make yhou accountable for your actions? If you get a weight loss buddy this will help you both to keep on trace.

Third, be prepared, it is when we are least prepared with our daily snacks and food that we tend to binge eat, or snack on the wrong things. If you plan your daily menu from breakfast, lunch and dinner with two healthy snacks in between, this is the first step to becoming succesful in losing those additional pounds.

Make sure the food you eat is one that you like, and does not have to be 'diet food', just eat sensible, and cut out junk food, cakes and biscuits and soda where possible.

Fourth, have an exercise regime, this could be a 30 minute walk at lunch time, or find an activity that you enjoy, such as salsa, pole dancing or otherwise. Going to the gym can be isolating and boring, and if you are not a self motivated person then you will be wasting a lot of money joining up.

Improve your Cardio - 30 Minutes Each Day That Is All It Takes

Cardiovascular exercises can not only help keep cardiovascular fitness, but also reduce heart diseases. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in America. It is found that about 250,000 people die with heart disease every year.

The main reason for this death rate is lack of regular exercise. Without exercise, people become less active and are at greater risk of developing hypertension (high blood pressure).

Cardiovascular exercises can burn a lot of calories, decreases LDL cholesterol levels and stress, improve stamina, and increases the metabolic activity rate. It is also good for athletic performance and an enhanced quality of life.

Aerobics exercises are the best cardiovascular exercises for cardiovascular fitness, as these exercises involve the larger muscles and provide enduring results that strengthens the cardiovascular system and enhances the body’s need for oxygen.

The right forms of cardiovascular exercises are running, brisk walking, cycling, swimming, jogging and some other aerobics.

The key to perform these cardiovascular exercises actively is to choose exercises that you enjoy the most. The more enjoyable the exercise is, the more likely you wish to continue practicing.

On the other hand, cardiovascular exercises are categorized based on three important components: frequency, duration, and intensity. These are the basic components that need to be considered while starting exercise routine.

Frequency of the cardiovascular exercises refers to the number of exercise sessions per week. To maintain cardiovascular fitness and to reduce body fat, it is recommended to exercise thrice a week.

Duration refers to the time you spend on each exercise session. The duration of each cardiovascular exercise session can be as little as five minutes to as much as 60 minutes or more.

Each time you perform cardiovascular exercise, practice at least twenty minutes. Even you can practice for more time. The more you practice, the more calories and fat burns and the better the cardiovascular fitness.

Intensity refers to the hard your body is working while exercising. A beginner should practice at a low intensity and increase your intensity gradually.

So, practicing cardiovascular exercises thrice a week for 30-60 minutes is enough to improve your cardiovascular fitness.

A Sense of Achievement




Taking part in the London Triathalon in 2007 was one of the pinnacles of my life. It was a fantastic achievement to have completed this marvellous event.

Here I am with my three team members, Jenny adn Emma. We were part of a team called the Herbalupers. Jenny came on board with less that 8 weeks to go, she had previously just recovered from Pleurasy apologies if I have spelt that incorrectly, and she agreed to be our swimmer! what a brave girl. She completed the 1500m swim with ease....
Emma volunteered to be the 5k runner, and what a fantastic run that was.
Me, well I ended up doing the 20k bike ride..... nearly killed me! But was such a good laugh and it was lovely that everyone cheered each other on.

For me, this was a life time achievement. I had reached my forties, and hadn't competed in any competitions for the last 6 years. I used to play in a Netball league but got injured. My ligament in my knee gave out, so jogging and jumping were a no no for me. Prior to my knee injury I loved sports, and was always playing either badminton, Netball, Football or going to the gym. The thought of having to get back into training to compete in this Triathalon was a no brainer really, I wanted to improve my fitness but also to prove that I CAN DO THIS if i put my mind to it!

It took a lot of discipline, effort and focus to prepare ourselves for this event. Even your diet had to be focussed and you had to be disciplined enough to ensure you ate the right mix of food groups.

Preparing yourself physically and mentally was a challenge. But like all challenges we face, you deal with them one at a time. I had tolog a daily schedule of what I was going to physically achieve for that day and STICK to it! When I was out there preparing for my cycle race, I would listen to my ipod which i had loaded up a bunch of motivational audio books, as well as some really great inspirational music to keep me going the distance. This made the time go quickly and enjoyably...

I raised nearly £2,000 for charity by taking part in this event alone, so it made it all worthwhile for me, and do you know, I went on to compete again in the following year's Triathalon, in fact we all did, but in different teams..... It was fantastic!

This is one less achievement I can tick off on my list of things I have done before I leave this wonderful earth....

How I Found Herbalife

December 2003, after the Christmas festivities had finished, the reality of what lay ahead for me started to sink in. Alone, with two boys then aged 11 and 5 and no form of income coming in. Living in a three bedroom house with a substantial mortgage to pay and a pitance of alimony money from the boys father to pay towards their wellbeing.
