How Colourful Is Your Diet?

Dieting can be monotonous if we choose it to be.  Why not make it exciting. There are so many good recipes out there that are filled with low fat items, fresh produce and low in calories yet filling and exciting enough to enjoy and fill you up!g

I hate rabbit food!  And there is a mixed conception out there that if you are on a weight loss diet, you have to be eating salads, soups and not much else. Wrooooooooooong...

Basically, if you keep tabs on your portion sizes, type of foods that pass your lips and include activity in your program, and provided that calories 'in' or 'eaten'  is less than calories 'out' or used up, you have a formula for weight loss.

David Heber's book is brilliant.  No more worrying about what type of fruit or vegetable you should eat and how much of.  He even has a simple menu option you can follow.

Because each color category represents different nutrients and antioxidants, Heber suggests one serving from each color. A serving is defined as one cup raw fruits or vegetables or ½ cup cooked.

A week of menus for men and another for women provides suggestions for fitting in all the produce while limiting foods deemed off the menu. Detailed lists of each color group and recommended portion sizes make it easy to create your own menus. Recipes, shopping lists, travel, and dining out tips are included.

David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.N.
Professor Heber is included in the The Best Doctors in America and Who's Who in America.
Professor Heber's expertise has been featured many times in the media, including on NBC, CNN and Discovery Channel.
In addition to writing over 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles and two professional texts, he has also written books for the public: "Natural Remedies for a Healthy Heart," "The Resolution Diet," "What Color is Your Diet?" and his latest book - "The LA Shape Diet."
He directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Dietary Supplement Research in Botanicals, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) - funded Clinical Nutrition Research Unit and the NIH Nutrition and Obesity Training Grants at UCLA.
Professor Heber's main research interests are obesity treatment and nutrition for cancer prevention and treatment. He is the Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles*.
Professor Heber holds a B.S. in Chemistry, Magna Cum Laude, UCLA, 1969; M.D. Harvard Medical School, 1973; and Ph.D. in Physiology, University of California, 1978. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Clinical Nutrition by the American Board of Nutrition.

Benefits of Using a Pedometer

Hi People, just a short blogpost on the benefits of a pedometer to help your weightloss regime, or indeed to improve your performance overall.  You must have all heard that ideally to keep active we need to complete over 10,000 steps per day which works out to about 3 miles (sorry guys not sure what the km distance is).  Having a pedometer can help you achieve this goal as it counts each step you take.

The benefits of this is it encourages exercise, you will also benefit from weightloss if you are walking to performing your10,000 steps per day.  More exercise in your routine will improve your chances of not suffering from high blood pressure or strokes or other weight related illnesses.

Keep track, set goals

By setting yourself goals and monitoring those on a daily basis, either electronically or manually in a diary is key to successful weight loss or improved health.

A pedometer  can catch small increases in activity, as you go about your daily chores, you would be surprised the amount of walking you can do at home, walking up stairs at least a dozen times or more for the day. Lets face it research has shown that  many people who increase activity while wearing pedometers seem to do so through these small bits of walking that would probably escape anyone’s attention. But a pedometer records them.

Lose Weight Can Be Easy or Hard, It All Depends On YOU!

How hard have you tried in the past to lose weight and gave up after two weeks or so of trying? Come on guys lets face it, it took you a while to pile on the pounds, what makes you think that you can  get rid of it so quickly.  Losing weight has to be your choice no one elses.  Once you decide you wish to lose weight, ask yourself the question - what will this weight loss do for me? How would it make me feel?  Above all else, when you are tempted your reason or your feelings for losing weight should be so strong, you ultimately are conscious of these feelings and act upon them positively , that is to deny what ever is tempting you.

It's a mindset thing, and you have to have control over both your conscious and subconscious mind for your weight loss to be effective.  Listen to this, have you ever made up your mind to lose weight, then a few moments later you open the fridge door and there sitting on the shelf is a large slice of cheese cake, or  something just as naughty, you say to yourself, I must be good as I am on a diet, but your sub conscious mind takes out the cake and before you know it you have eaten the slice!  What's wrong with that scene?

Well your subconsious mind just ignored your conscious mind, which is something it is programmed to do by YOU.  So how to you re-programme your sub conscious so that it listens to you?   NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming can help to do this effectively, but you must be open to it in the first instance.  Anthony Robbins and many others teaches this technique. You also have to have a really strong why in the first place.  Many of us know what we have to do to lose weight, eat less, exercise more, but we find it hard to get motivated to do so.

Having a buddy, someone who makes you accountable is a great way to lose weight and stay in shape.  Also, if there is a way in which you can STOP buying the foods that tempt you or have them in the house, go ahead and do that.  You will be amazed how quickly you adapt to good eating habits when bad food is not around.

Here's a program which you may find helps with changing your mindset and helping you to achieve your weight loss goals.  Let me have your reviews if any :)
